Meet Our Visionaries Awards Honoree: Kiesha Nix

Join us on October 13th at our virtual Visionaries Awards to celebrate Kiesha Nix!

Kiesha Nix is currently the Executive Director of the Lakers Youth Foundation where she oversees and directs programming and funding priorities for the charitable arm of the Los Angeles Lakers. She is responsible for implementing the mission of the Foundation which is to assist underserved youth in our communities to develop and recognize their full potential by providing positive experiences and resources in education, health & wellness and sports.

Kiesha is our Alumni of Year honoree. She graduated from Leadership L.A. in 2014.

As I reflect on my SCLN experience, it was something I will never forget. As a native Angelino I did not realize there were so many areas of my own city that I knew so little about. SCLN provided me with opportunities to go behind the scenes, to review infrastructure and to actually see my beloved city really at work! I gained many new perspectives and learned so much. I remain in contact with many of my colleagues from my SCLN Cohort and we are always cheering each other on.

At the Lakers Youth Foundation, Kiesha directs funding which supports over 100,000 youth in 20+ Southern California Boys & Girls Clubs through basketball and health & fitness clinics and the Jr. Lakers Youth Basketball Program; has helped to build 40+ basketball courts throughout Los Angeles and surrounding counties, 15+ Reading Rooms and currently has completed 2 STEM Lab projects at local middle and high schools in Los Angeles. This funding also awards monetary grants to non-profit organizations that support youth with direct services and programs. Kiesha is also very active in the Lakers civic engagement, social justice and diversity & inclusion efforts.

Receiving this recognition from SCLN in the wake of us emerging from a global pandemic and to have my leadership recognized during literally the most challenging time of our lives is beyond rewarding. I know what we experienced in 2020 and 2021 was uncharted waters for many of us. Our families, our cities, and our world depended on strong Leaders to stand up and take action - to be Visionaries and to create pathways that never existed.

On the Philanthropic side Kiesha currently sits on the following Boards: Advisory Board for the Los Angeles Dodgers and MLB’s RBI program (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities), USC Black Alumni Advisory Board, Advisory Board for the LA A11iance of professional sports teams, Project Destined, HealHer Network and KHEIR (Korean Healthcare Education Information & Research Center) Boards respectively. Kiesha works with countless non-profit organizations and mentors youth throughout her Community. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Nevada.

To be able to say that I took part in this in some small way as we document the stories for our history books... To say there were successes, triumphs and victories feels like more than a mere accomplishment... It feels like we have overcome the impossible – but we did it together! We have much work left to do. But for now I am proud and I say thank you to Southern California Leadership Network for preparing me to lead!

Join us at Visionaries Awards on October 13th, where you will hear from Kiesha and our other honorees about their leadership journeys, and connect with SCLN alumni and partners. By attending the Visionaries Awards, you are helping to advance SCLN’s mission and contributing to scholarships for under-represented emerging leaders. You’ll make a difference and help leaders gain the skills, knowledge, and network they need to be the kind of civic professionals who drive change in their communities.
