Core Programs
"At the Red Cross, I'm responsible for collecting blood for all of Southern California. Leadership L.A. and Leadership Southern California were fantastic opportunities to enhance the work I do for the region's patients; I learned about critical policy issues and had the chance to meet great classmates and speakers--influential individuals who really shape L.A. and Southern California life."
-Cliff Numark, Director, Donor Recruitment, American Red Cross Blood Services; Councilmember, City of Torrance; Graduate of Leadership L.A. 2005 and Leadership Southern California 2004
The Southern California Leadership Network has already equipped more than 1,300 civic-minded thinkers of both Leadership L.A. and Leadership Southern California with the community and regional knowledge necessary to address quality of life issues in Southern California.
Sessions are designed with three key components that are distinctive to SCLN's programs:
- Focused leadership skill development modules following the Civic Entrepreneurship framework
- A comprehensive overview of the issues, including behind-the-scenes exploration through case studies
- Dialogue among peers and experts
Recruiting efforts are aimed at ensuring that the diversity of the region is reflected fully in the composition of the classes, with special attention given to cultural, gender, age and professional diversity. Classes always include leaders from the ranks of private industry, government and the non-profit sector.
Tuition costs vary between the two programs, and assistance in the form of partial scholarships is avaialable for qualified applicants who show a demonstrated need for financial aid. Applicants from Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce member organizations receive a 10 percent credit on tuition.
