Exploring the future of energy, water and the environment in our region
SCLN is organizing exclusive alumni briefings and study trips focused on understanding the key challenges and opportunities with energy, water and the environment that are unique to the Southern California region.
In the
midst of our energy and water crises, regional leaders should be focused on alternative sources,
conservation, new technology, and industry partnerships, while addressing how
California
can grow its economy in the green technology arena. Through partnerships with key service providers and utilities, SCLN organizes the following programs and excursions:
- Understanding Water Infrastructure. SCLN seeks to continue to raise the prominence of water issues in Southern California as our state enters its ninth year of drought conditions. Southern California relies on nearly 90 percent imported water and is rapidly continuing to urbanize. The goal is to connect leaders to a first-hand understanding of these issues and encourage more of them to engage in local water districts, conservation efforts, policy initiatives and technology conversations. - Understanding Energy Infrastructure. Similar to water, Southern California imports its energy. SCLN seeks to add more conversations and programming around energy, with specific attention to conservation and new technology. Case study excursions are planned to the Tehachapi wind farm, biomass fields in the Imperial Valley and Mexicali, and the increased use of solar fields throughout Southern California, among other opportunities.
