Call to action for the leadership network
Despite recent news of Homeboy Industries' lay-offs, core businesses continue to operate and need your help. Several graduates of the Leadership Southern California (LSC) Class of 2009 have been volunteering with Homeboy Industries' silkscreen and embroidery division on strategic planning to develop a comprehensive business plan for the enterprise. We encourage all members of the SCLN Network to consider using Homeboy Industries for your organization's printing and promotional items. According to silk-screening manager Ruben Rodriguez, business has doubled since the LSC group began volunteering. "This is an incredible program and a wonderful chance to give back to a valuable part of our community that can really use our help and resources," said Rick Lombardo, Unified Grocers (LSC '09), who has been volunteering with Homeboy Industries.

Alumni Spotlight

As the new mayor of Sierra Madre, how will you use the skills and networks you gained through SCLN in your new post?
"As I begin my time as mayor of Sierra Madre, there are many challenges facing my community. Some of these challenges are no different than the ones that other cities in California are facing, and some are fairly unique.
In bringing about solutions, I need to understand my resources, bring together all of the stakeholders around common values, and to think as creatively as possible. So, essentially, I need to use the skills that I gained through SCLN and I need to tap into the amazing network that I am apart as a member of the SCLN alumni network."
-Hon. Joseph Mosca, Public Affairs Manager, Southern California Gas Company; Mayor, City of Sierra Madre; and Graduate, Leadership Southern California Class of 2009.
