Alumni Spotlight

Why do civic leaders need to understand global connections in Southern California, and how can they make a difference?*

"Global connections built Southern California's economy (which ranks 17th in the world), and even its culture, through its diverse languages, religions and creativity. It's important that civic leaders not only understand this, but begin to think globally. If leaders fail to do so, then we risk growth in commerce, innovation and much more.

It is up to civic leaders to be engaged and bring global issues to the table, because it's missing in Sacramento, in the cities and counties of Southern California, and it's what can pull us out of recession and further our growth. .'"

-Vanessa Pereda, Global Corporate Citizenship Community Investor- Special Projects, The Boeing Company; and Graduate, Leadership L.A. Class of 2008.
