The Leadership L.A. Class of 2010 explored arts and culture at the Music Center on April 9. Fellows discussed the creative economy with Jack Kyser, Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, and spoke with a panel of arts leaders on education, social change and business. Many panelists stressed the need to innovate in their organizations in terms of structure and audience outreach to keep up with diversity in Los Angeles. They also experienced first-hand different arts organizations that focus on arts education (Inner-City Arts pictured above), performing arts and cultural arts. The day concluded with Charmaine Jefferson, California African American Museum on the importance of sustaining the arts in Los Angeles and managing through crises. Alumni Spotlight

Excerpt from an SCLN Leadership Blog entry by alum Colleen Haggerty, who recently completed the 2010 American Marshall Memorial Fellowship, awarded by The German Marshall Fund of the United States:

"I recently returned from five very different countries in 25 days, with the honor of representing California as an American Marshall Memorial Fellow.
My passport now has new stamps from Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Croatia, and Romania - a mix of the European Union capitol; Nordic country; the Mediterranean; former Yugoslavia; and a true eastern bloc country having been ruled by Nazis, Soviets, and one of the most insane dictators of the 20th century...
Visiting these nations, and talking with everyone from think tank experts to bartenders, provided a dizzying array of examples of just how intertwined are Europe and America... and California for that matter."

-Colleen Haggerty, Senior Vice President, Media Relations, Bank of America; and Graduate, Leadership Southern California Class of 2009. Read her entire entry on the SCLN Leadership Blog.
