LSC receives in-depth economics trends and forecast briefing, and focuses on fabric of L.A.
The Leadership Southern California Class of 2010 Fellows attended two days of seminars, Nov. 19 and 20, starting with an Economics for Civic Leaders lesson from Christopher Thornberg, Beacon Economics, who discussed economic trends, forecasting and assessment at The Music Center of Los Angeles.
"The recession is over. The end of the recession is the bottom, not the recovery. We're now in recovery," he said. The next day the class focused on the people, places and trends shaping
Los Angeles with an economic analysis and discussion around perspectives on Los Angeles with L.A. Area Chamber Board Chair Fran Inman, Majestic Realty Co., Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education President Mónica García, and The California Endowment CEO Dr. Robert K. Ross. Fellows then embarked on local excursions focusing on manufacturing and fashion at the California Market Center; social services at the Midnight Mission; arts and culture on Grand Ave.; and politics and law enforcement at the new Los Angeles Police Department headquarters. "My vision is to create a high-quality, sustainable regional
network of community leaders ready for leadership in the 21st
century. By building upon the solid foundation laid by my predecessor,
Tony Buzzelli, I will continue to seek partnerships and collaborations with
other organizations, which will allow us
to engage our diverse and inclusive network of
leaders more fully in the global conversation."
-Kimberly Freeman, Regional Director of Community Partnerships, Sempra Energy; Graduate, Leadership
Southern California Class of 2002; and SCLN Incoming Board Chair 2010.
